The third concert evening of the third edition of the 2025 Sofia Experimental – International Experimental Music Festival is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of the Sofia born composer André Boucourechliev.

One of the active protagonists of the “transatlantic avant-garde” (according to Taruskin) of the second half of the 20th century, Boucourechliev left a significant mark on Western European music both with his exploration of indeterminacy and open form, and with his few but remarkable electroacoustic compositions. In the Exploring Instruments & Electronics program we will hear one of his early electroacoustic works and one of his later piano compositions distinguished by the indeterminacy of its form. In addition, the audience will have the opportunity to hear several new works that explore different approaches to combining instrumental and electronic sound by Darina Žurková, Vladimir Vlaev and Petar Kerkelov.

PROGRAM:

André Boucourechliev – Texte II (1958) for tape (2 channels)

Darina Žurková – Strung for prepared piano and electronics, performed by the author

Vladimir Vlaev – E profundo (2020), for amplified clarinet and live electronics, performed by Rosen Idealov (clarinet)

André Boucourechliev – 6 Etudes d'après Piranèse, op. 18 (1975), performed by Anzhela Tosheva (piano)

Peter Kerkelov — "Tanzen ad interim" (2023) for cello solo and electronics, written for Stefan Hadjiev and commissioned by oneMusic Orchestra and Beethovenfest, Bonn
